3 Tips for a Mindful Start to 2022

New Year’s is my favorite time of year! I love that it represents both an ending and a beginning. For years and years, I have marked this time of year with reflection on the past year and visioning for the new year. Over the years, I have made this visioning process fuller and more complete….by creating goals that mean something to me and mapping them out for the year.

I LOVE doing this work! It has helped me tremendously in clarifying what I want and just simply being more purposeful with my time. I want to fill each year with bucket list items, and dreams, and goals and the things that fill me up. Why not, right?! We have this one precious and wild life…so let’s make the most of it!!!

I have found that the most effective way to do that is to use the transition into the new year as an inspiration to get intentional and purposeful.

Alright, get your journal out and let’s go!

1 | Review the Past Year

Too often we jump into planning the next year without really looking back at what DID or DIDN’T work the year before and without celebrating the progress we’ve made. If we don’t review what happened, we don’t learn how to do it differently or how to repeat what worked.

In your journal, answer these questions:

  • What are 3 things that made you feel excited or energized in 2021?
  • What did you accomplish 2021?
  • Where did you feel held back or stuck?

2 | Craft Your Vision for 2022

Spend some time dreaming!

Imagine that you magically traveled to the future, one year from now. How does this future version of yourself live everyday life?

  • From the moment you wake up until you go to bed at night, what does a typical day look like for you, 1 year from now?
  • What have you started doing? What have you stopped doing?
  • What are you doing more and less of?
  • What areas of your life have improved?

Let your imagination run wild and don’t censor yourself.

3 | Set Your 2022 Goals

The first thing I want you to do here is a brain dump.

  • Set a timer for 5 minutes and write out every single goal you think you’d like to accomplish in 2022.
  • To achieve real results, you’ll need to narrow your focus. So now, narrow it down to top 5!
  • Choose 5 goals that, when accomplished, would make the impact you are wanting to see/experience in your life.

4 | BONUS: Make a Vision Board

The last step is to take your 5 goals and put them into visual form with a Vision Board.

Choose images that illustrate working towards the goal as well as achieving the goal.
