What to Do in Your Sacred Space

Last week I shared HOW to create a Sacred Space and this week I am sharing WHAT to do when you get there! 

A Sacred Space is a special place within your home that may include an altar, yoga mat, candles, and any other items that are significant and meaningful for you.  This space is your space to ground, center, and reconnect with yourself. 

Creating a Sacred Space and then visiting it often will help you reduce stress and anxiety while also giving life to your dreams and desires.  It is a necessary space that should be as integral to daily life as your kitchen and bathroom.  If you do not yet have a Sacred Space, click here to learn how to create one.

Here's What to Do In Your Sacred Space: 

Open:

I find it’s so powerful to open your sacred practice and then close it when you’re done.  This creates a sacred container and encourages your system and soul to really drop in.  Here is a great way to open your practice:

  • Sit down at your altar
  • Turn on music (I have a great playlist here)
  • Cleanse yourself with 3 deep breaths
  • Light a candle:  When you light a candle at the beginning of your practice, you’re signifying the start of your practice and signaling to your higher self that you are ready to connect.  
  • Light incense (optional)

 

Practice:

Choose one (or more than one) of the following to practice:

  • Practice yoga (move intuitively or follow one of the practices in the BNY Membership)
  • Dance
  • Meditate
  • Sit in empty presence and invite in wisdom, magic and positive energy
  • Write stream of consciousness style (write without stopping, editing, or reading what you wrote) for 10 minutes about anything and everything. Nothing is off limits.  Just let it flow.
  • Pull a card from an intentional card deck
  • Read a sacred book

 

Close:

  • Come back to stillness and quiet
  • Offer a prayer, blessing, or gratitude
  • Blow out your candles and gently and lovingly leave your sacred space vowing to be back again tomorrow.
